Tonight, the Dallas Cowboys will take on the San Francisco 49ers in a pre-season game.
While pre-season games mean nothing on paper, they do give coaches a chance to see players in action. Especially those players that are not in the starting lineup and may have to be called on during the regular season in backups positions.
Dallas is looking for backup talent at quarterback.
Head Coach Jason Garrett says, “I think there’s a lot of things that go into it. The first thing is you need to be a good decision maker. There are opportunities to throw the deep ball. You have to recognize when those are. You have to see the defense quickly and understand how you pattern overlays on defense and how you want to attack them down the field and I think that’s where it starts. I think your feet have to be really good, in order to get back and get the ball up and obviously just your touch and accuracy as a passer.”
Coach Garrett adds it’s not about a powerful arm and throwing the deep ball. Rather playing smart in the short medium and intermediate passes.
