UTRGV Veteran students awarded scholarships

EDINBURG, Texas – Some deserving veteran students of UTRGV receiving scholarships just before the fall semester begins.

Ten veteran students each receiving a $1,000 scholarship at a reception this afternoon at the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce. The scholarships are part of the Texas Cook’ Em High Steaks Barbecue competition which has quickly become one of the largest in the state. H-E-B partnering with the Edinburg Chamber to present the scholarships to the students.

Ronnie Larralde, Executive Director – Edinburg Chamber of Commerce, “This year we decided to honor our veterans. Especially the ones with UTRGV. It was our first time that we do that and it feels great to help our veterans and just give back a little bit of something for them right before their school year starts.”

The Texas Cook’Em High Steaks Barbecue Competition takes place every summer in July at the Edinburg H-E-B Park.
