MCALLEN, Texas – After a receiving a forensic exam at a hospital, a sexual assault victim is usually required to leave their clothing behind as evidence. Several UTRGV organizations want to help some of those victims by hosting a clothing drive.

The drive will benefit Mujeres Unidas which aids victims of domestic and sexual assault with clothing to leave at local hospitals. Currently the organization is experiencing a shortage. Donation boxes have been placed around the Edinburg and Brownsville campuses. Items needed include plain t-shirts, leisurewear such as sweatpants, and undergarments.

Margot Martinez, Outreach Coordinator, “The clothes that the community donates really helps a lot because that’s the clothes that the survivor goes home in and we’re trying to make it the least uncomfortable for the survivor.”

Clothing must be new and is need for both female and males. Donations will be collected until August 18.
