TxDOT urging drivers to use caution during street improvement phase

MCALLEN, Texas – A few road closures happening this week affecting traffic in the the Pharr and McAllen areas. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has begun street improvements along major intersections such as the 23rd and 10th eastbound frontage turn-around which will be closed through Friday.

In Pharr, closures will occur on several on-ramps including the interchange eastbound ramp toward Harlingen. TxDOT representatives encourage drivers to follow signs carefully.

Octavio Saenz, TxDOT Public Information Officer, “One of the biggest problems we have in work zones is people not respecting the speed limit. When people get distracted, more often than not, they end up in the work zone. Not only do they run the risk of killing themselves, but they also run the risk of killing one of our people.”

Street closures are as follows:

  • Interstate 2 and Jackson Avenue
  • Interstate 2 and Veterans Blvd.
  • Interstate 69C and Sioux Rd.
  • Interstate 69C and Nolana Loop
