MONTE ALTO, Texas — The Monte Alto area saw significant rainfall overnight but it was the winds which also caused an equal amount of damage.
With sadness and through tears Leticia Bravo talks about her home. A trailer she and her family recently built. Destroyed by the overnight storms.
“With a lot of sacrifice we were building our home. Now to have to start all over again.” she said.
When the storms hit the Bravo family they were in a temporary trailer next to their mobile home they had just renovated. She describes the moments before their new home would be lifted up by the winds and tossed into the trailer where they were seeking shelter.
“My husband picked up my daughter wrapped her in a blanket and threw themselves on the ground. He told me to get down on the flood and that when the trailer fell to the ground and he just kept telling me to hide.”
Paula Hernandez, the Bravo’s neighbor, whose son’s mobile home was also destroyed by the overnight storms.
“Well thank God because no one was home because they just left to work they are immigrants.” said Hernandez.
The family of five went out of town just this past Friday. Now Hernandez is left sifting through what remains.
Both families are now in need of a helping hand but are thankful they have an opportunity to start again. While the Bravo family plans to rebuild, Hernandez is unsure what her son will do once he returns home from work.
