Southwest Key employee arrested for messaging minor for explicit photos

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A 31-year-old former Southwest Key employee was arrested for allegedly soliciting a minor under the age of 14 through social media.

Hugo Alberto Rodriguez had these charges brought upon him by the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office for the crime against the child who is no longer in Texas.

The two are believed to have met during his job at the Southwest Keys in Brownsville, a non-profit with programs committed to keeping kids out of correctional facilities, where he was able to obtain her contact information to request nude photos over the internet.

It is unknown through what program Rodriguez met the child.

According to a representative from Southwest Key, Rodriguez was fired from the company nearly a year ago due to “inappropriate comments made during a conversation with a coworker.”

The statement also disclosed that the incident was reported to licensing authorities, “This person was not employed with us when the allegations he was arrested for occurred. We strictly forbid any contact with minors after they leave our care.”

Rodriguez had family members present during his arraignment earlier this morning where his bond was set at $500,000.
