Sheriff’s office warns of driving through puddles of water

EDINBURG, Texas — The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about the danger of driving in high water. Even driving through puddles poses the risk of water entering your vehicles engine, leaving you stranded. A mechanic from the Sheriff’s motor pool says even shallow pools of water can find their way into an engine.

“The height of the door can be this high, but it’s still gonna go into the intake if you’re splashing the water up with the tires. So it doesn’t really have to be that deep to get the water into the engine.”

He adds that if you stumble across pools of water, it’s best to find an alternate route to your destination.
