School district hosting Dyslexia event on Oct. 19


MCALLEN, Texas – October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. The McAllen ISD will be hosting the inaugural Dyslexia Conference where attendees can learn about the disorder and its impact on school aged children.

The conference will be taking place on Saturday, Oct. 19 at McAllen High School located at 2021 La Vista Avenue from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. During the event there will be 10 mini informational sessions. Those who attend can pick three sessions to attend.

School officials say they hope other districts will host similar events to raise awareness. The say McAllen ISD is proud to be leading the way.

Salvador Flores, Dyslexia Director – McAllen ISD, “We have the ability to make sure that every child in our school district has the opportunity to have an opportunity to learn just like all kids. When they have a disability to get them to the next level which is college or the workforce.”

The event is free and open to anyone who wants to learn more about dyslexia including administrators, teachers, parents and students.
