BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Erasmo Castro’s vacant seat is being filled by Edelmiro “Eddie” Garcia.

Garcia is a 1984 Glady’s Porter High School graduate with eight years of service with the U.S. Air force and 33 years of law enforcement experience with the Brownsville Police Department.

“We were hoping he would say yes, but we didn’t know until we picked up the phone here and gave him a call before we decided that this was the person we wanted to nominate and see what would happen,” said Minerva Peña, BISD Board President.

Garcia is set to be sworn in on Monday.
