Risk and Safety Expo

MCALLEN, Texas — The city of McAllen recently held its 5th Annual Risk and Safety Expo. The expo highlighting workplace safety. Employers learned about the best practices when working and living around power lines and how to properly drive a forklift. All in an effort to prevent fatalities.

Saul Cabrera, business owner, “I kind of let people know what can happen if they’re not properly trained. I had my finger pulled out with my wedding band. It’s part of the process that we try to teach people especially like on the forklift, is to how to get on the forklift how to get off the forklift. Make sure that they don’t have any lose clothing jewelry and what can occur or happen if they’re not properly trained.”

Over 30,000 serious injuries and 85 deaths are reported each year due to forklift accidents, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
