RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas — Plans for a Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) are moving forward quickly. McAllen city leaders appointing Mayor Jim Darling as their person leading the charge.
It comes weeks after Governor Greg Abbott approved the merger which now includes most of the RGV.
By becoming an MPO the region stands to gain tens of millions of dollars more in federal money for things like infrastructure. One of the biggest projects in discussion is a High-speed rail linking the Valley to bigger cities in the state.
