MERCEDES, Texas – A petition for a recall election submitted for the city of Mercedes mayor, and mayor pro tempore (pro tem), has been deemed invalid.
No specific reason has been cited for the recall of Mayor Henry Hinojosa or Mayor pro tem Leo Villarreal.
But in a press release issued Thursday, Local 23 was told there were a few issues with the recall petition including the same person signing twice, no voter identification number provided, missing dates of birth, and some signing the petition were not registered Mercedes voters.
