PSJA students attend NYC Buddy Walk

PHARR, Texas – From Pharr to New York City, three special needs students represented the Rio Grande Valley this weekend.

The three PSJA ISD students, who also happen to be best friends, participated in the 2019 New York City Buddy Walk. The event honors and celebrates individuals with Down syndrome in communities across the nation.

The trio stood out from more than 3,000 contest entries with their cap and gown photo.

Veronica Quintana, program director, “It’s a great recognition you know for our program Pathways Toward Independence and it’s a great honor for the girls to be recognized. We celebrated and recognized them. We’re happy that they were going to take a trip to New York.”

The PSJA ISD Pathway Towards Independence program continues to ensure students with special needs receive independent living and employment skills needed to obtain a career after graduating.
