Off-duty deputy charged with Assault on a Public Servant


EDINBURG, Texas — An off-duty deputy is arrested and charged with Assault on a Public Servant. According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, Roberto Rivera is being placed on administrative leave with pay pending an internal investigation by the Palmhurst Police Department.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff gave this statement:

I am committed to preserving the public’s confidence and trust in the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. We will continue to investigate any and all allegations of employee misconduct, and I will take the necessary and appropriate actions to maintain accountability and transparency to you, the citizens we serve.”

Rivera’s bond was set at $20,000.
