Escaped Inmate Steals Weapons from Sheriff’s Department, On the Run

An escaped inmate from the Cameron County Jail is on the run from authorities. He is considered armed and dangerous. Reports say he took a weapon from a deputy and an assault rifle. At about 2:00 p.m., a report of shots fired from the 3700 block of Boca Chica Boulevard was reported.

The inmate has not been identified. Both the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department and the Brownsville Police are in pursuit as well as numerous city police departments. Details are sketchy at the moment. The inmate is reported in the San Benito area near Gillman-Honda car dealership in San Benito.
