New Pre-med program aimed at Valley high school students

EDINBURG, Texas – The UTRGV School of Medicine is launching a new program. It is aimed at highly talented Rio Grande Valley high school students.

The university’s school of medicine is partnering with UTRGV’s Honors College in launching the Vaqueros MD Early Assurance Pre-med Program. The program aims to identify high achieving Valley students who will earn undergrad degrees at UTRGV. Assuring them guaranteed acceptance into the UTRGV School of Medicine Class of 2024.

Dr. John Krouse, Dean – UTRGV Medical School, “They will be scholars in our Honors College. They will receive mentoring, they will receive support services, they receive many different programs that will make their journey and their transition from undergraduate to medical school as seamlessly as possible.”

Students from Laredo, Corpus Christi as well as Valley students who have an interest in attending medical school or other health related professional programs are encouraged to apply. Up to 5 applicants will be selected for admission to the program.
