Mission signs newest sister city

MISSION, Texas – Fortin De Las Flores, of the Mexican State Veracruz is Mission’s newest sister city.

The partnership was celebrated ahead of the city’s historic Citrus Parade, at the annual mayor’s international brunch.

That’s where Mission Mayor Armando O’Caña welcomed Fortin Mayor, Antonio Mansur along with local officials.

Mayor O’Caña says the purpose of the sister city agreement is to promote cultural exchanges and stimulate economic development across the border.

“I have a lot of citizens in Mission that work in Reynosa. They work in Mexico. They work in Mexico City. They go to Monterrey and vice versa,” said Dr. Armando O’Caña, Mission Mayor.

The cities are already forging ties, Mission’s Fire Department recently donated a fire truck to their new sister city.

Fortin is Mission’s 26th sister city.
