Deployment is underway for thousands of Mexican national guardsmen in southern Mexico. Their deployment is already having an impact on immigration from Central America. The leaders of several huge groups of migrants about to depart to Mexico on to the U.S. have been stopped in their tracks.
They say they wanted to see how the military will deal with their crossings near Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico. The move is part of an accelerated commitment to a 6,000 strong force made as part of an agreement with the United States to head off threatened U.S. tariffs on imports from Mexico.
