McAllen Public Library launches “My First Library Card”


MCALLEN, Texas – September is library card sign-up month and the McAllen Public Library is launching a new program aimed at children called “My First Library Card”. The new cards are free and feature a bright and colorful new design with the friendly and iconic tuxedo wearing library cat.

Heather Bobrowics, Children’s librarian, “We believe that children need to have access to libraries. As one of their main parts of their education we give them access to information that they need for school. We give them programming to enrich their lives and we give them access to online resources like

Library officials adding the tuxedo cat on the new card is the official unnamed mascot of the McAllen Library. A contest to name the cat will be coming soon.
