McAllen ISD students remembering the September 11 attacks

MCALLEN, Texas – Students of the McAllen ISD holding a ceremony this morning in remembrance of the victims of the 9/11 tragedy.

The Young Americans for Freedom student organization at Lamar Academy hosting the memorial. The 9-11 Never Forget students retelling the story of each individual attack against the U.S. that fateful morning. Many of the students were not even born when the attacks occurred but say they know the importance of remembering and honoring the victims.

Eduardo Alejandro Rivas, Senior – Lamar Academy, “I see it as a significant event. Not only as a pivotal moment in our history, as we see it changed a lot of our way of life, but also as a reminder of how precious our American Freedom is and how much we should cherish it.”

Debbie Crane-Aliseda, McAllen School Board Trustee, “Nothing is going to keep us down. We’re always going to fight, march onward. It’s wonderful that these children that never even met these people, that they are mourning and here we are today celebrating their lives and also celebrating the spirit of humanity.”

Students also planting nearly 3,000 flags for the ceremony. Each flag representing the victims of 9/11.
