Man charged with Aggravated Kidnapping/Sexual Abuse arrested

PEÑITAS, Texas – A Roma man accused of sexually assaulting a little girl has been arrested.

According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s office, 36-year-old Abiel Martinez-Avalos contacted an 11-year-old girl through Snapchat.

On September 1st, Avalos picked up the young girl after reportedly threatening her. That is when the victim said she realized the suspect was not 17 years old as he claimed to be.

Authorities said he then took the girl to a nearby parking lot where he sexually assaulted her and drove her back home.

An arrest warrant was issued after investigators gathered video surveillance, secured statements and law enforcement records.

Avalos is being charged with Aggravated Kidnapping and Sexual Abuse.
