HARLINGEN, Texas - It’s a game celebrating the Capital of the Rio Grande Valley and it can only be found at the local Walmart store. The store, located at 1801 West Lincoln Street, recently began selling the localized version of the Monopoly board game.
Harlingen Opoly features popular locations such as the Iwo Jima Memorial and the Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum as well as local events such as Jackson Street Market Days and The Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival.
The game was the idea of Harlingen Walmart Store Manager, Tino Vidaurri who says he was approached by a third party vendor and thought it would be a great idea. “I felt people would really like to play a game featuring places they’re familiar with and after talking it over with my District Manager, I reached out to the store directors in our region which includes Port Isabel, Los Fresnos, Brownsville, San Benito, Donna, Weslaco, and Edcouch Elsa and they also agreed to get them for their stores.”
He says they’ve only been on the shelf since July 5 and they’re flying off the rack.
