Vehicle Clean Up Leads to Evacuation

Local News

What started as an ordinary vehicle cleaning, turned into a bomb squad evacuation in Harlingen on Monday evening. Harlingen PD responded to a caller who suspected there was a grenade inside his pickup truck. The caller had inherited an old vehicle and decided to clean it last night. It was then that the man spotted what appeared to be a grenade. The neighborhood was alerted and cleared away from the potential explosive. The Brownsville Police Bomb Squad was brought in to secure the object.

Sgt. John Parrish says, “If you do see an abandoned firearm or a device that may look suspicious, probably an explosive device, or anything suspicious package. Notify your local law enforcement. Let us deal with it. Stay away from it. Call us and we’ll come and take care of it.”

At this time the device has not been confirmed to be a live explosive. No injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.
