UTRGV is opening an open surgery and specialty center just for women.

As part of the clinical component of the UTRGV School of Medicine, the Women’s Specialty Center located in Harlingen, will offer surgical consolations. Also included will be follow up appointments, special services for women including gynecologic oncology and urogynecology.

Sophia Hernandez – Chief of Staff, UTRGV School of Medicine says, “Part of our mission is to make sure we increase access to care. What we find specifically in Cameron County is that we had a lack of women’s health specialty services. Part of our commitment is not only to train the next generation of physicians but to make sure that we provide patient care. We do that through the UT Health RGV and that’s an arm of the medical school that again provides patient care in the community.”

Although the center is already seeing patients, Women’s Health Services will begin on May 1.
