The university of Texas Rio Grande Valley will open a health clinic at Laguna Vista.
This is a project the town has been working on for over a year.
The university has committed to maintain the health clinic for a minimum of five years.
Laguna Vista City Manager Rolando Vela calls it a win-win for the community.
“We are located in a remote area in Cameron County, health care is an issue,” Vela said.
“We have a lot of people here that are retirees and the ability to be able to have a clinic nearby is very important to the community,” he said.
The Community Development Corporation will reimburse UTRGV $6,000 quarterly during the first year of the lease, and $7,500 quarterly during the second and third years.
Laguna Vista hopes the clinic will open during the first quarter of this year.
