UTRGV to be Part of Zika Research Center

Local News

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will be an important part of a group being formed to study the Zika virus.

It stems from a grant by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC is awarding $40 million to create research centers that will help address Zika in the United States. One of those centers of excellence will be the Western Gulf Center.

Brownsville was listed as a ‘Zika Cautionary Area’ by the CDC. UTRGV will receive more than $500,000 to track and study Zika in our area and come up with a plan of action.
