Unemployment rates have remained below the national average in multiple Rio Grande Valley cities for several months, according to a news release by Workforce Solutions.
As of January, McAllen had the lowest unemployment rate at 4.7 percent, followed by Edinburg at 4.8 percent, and Harlingen at 5.6 percent.
Workforce solutions offers a variety of job seeking services, such as the their Adult and Dislocated Worker Program.
“For example, let’s say you are trained in typing and that’s something that is not necessary in our workforce as much as it used to be, maybe now it’s computers, we can offer training,” said Workforce Solutions Communications Specialist, Laura Cavazos.
The agency also offers assistance to Spanish-speaking residents.
“We partner with Region One, and they offer ESL courses and GED courses, and adult basic education courses free,” explained Cavazos.
Workforce Solutions is currently working with a call center company to hire customer service representatives.
Teletech employs more than 40,000 people in 20 countries and has been around for 30 years.
“This year, by the end of march this year we’ll have hired 270 people, so we’re actively hiring,” said Director of Talent Acquisition, Richard Jordan.
The company is hiring full-time workers and offers health benefits, along with competitive wages and tuition reimbursement. Another perk is having the opportunity to grow within.
“A number of our executives actually started their careers with Teletech on the front line answering customer phone calls,” continued Jordan.
Anyone interested in the positions available can apply online at www.teletechjobs.com.
Some of the qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, and customer service experience.
Cavazos encourages those looking for work to stop by their McAllen office for same-day assistance.
