You’ve still got a month to get your taxes filed for this year, but the IRS says unclaimed refunds from years past are piling up.
More than $1.4 billion in unclaimed tax refunds for 2015 are sitting in IRS coffers. Belonging to about 1.2 million taxpayers who didn’t file a tax return for that year.
In order to claim that money, those taxpayers must submit their 2015 tax returns by April 15. Otherwise that money goes back to the U.S. Treasury.
You generally have three years from the due date of your tax return to claim your refund.
