Troops coming to the border

Local News

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – Hundreds of National Guard troops will be coming to our border.

This is according to an announcement by Governor Greg Abbott in an attempt to stop the tide of undocumented immigrants from Central America.

The 1,000 soldiers, men and women, will be stationed in El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley to help Border Patrol with specific daily operations. Most of the tasks will be in a support role

Governor Greg Abbott says Congress has failed to act on border policy and he has no choice but to send the troops.

The Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and House Speaker say Texas is picking up the slack for Congress.

“Congress is a group of reprobates for not addressing the crisis on our border.” Said Governor Greg Abbott.

“It is time for Congress to quit talking, quit arguing, quit fighting, to quit denying that this is a crisis.” Said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.

Abbott says he expects the state to be reimbursed for 100% of the expenses related to this operation.
