Trial Continues for Mother Accused of Killing Son

Local News

For the Second day a woman from Donna is facing a Hidalgo County jury. Karla Tania de Jesus Lucio is being accused of killing her 2 year old son in 2014. One of the key witnesses was a forensic pathologist. She was on the stand for several hours describing the pictures of the child the day he died. The jury saw pictures which showed bruises all over the toddler’s body. The county’s forensic pathologist also testified the child’s body had a toxic level of salicylates.

Dr. Norma Jean Farley said, “Lots of bruises, lots of contusions. In my opinion, I’m afraid salicylates may have been given because of the amount of bruising and damage to the child.”

Salicylates are Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs. They are used to reduce fever, pain and inflammation. Dr. Farley says the child weighed 25 pounds when he died. It was reported he hardly ate for the last two days he was alive. The trial continues.
