Transportation Plan in the Works

Local News

Updates are planned for the 2017 Lower Rio Grande Valley Regional Public Transportation Coordination Plan.

This is a plan that will affect public transportation across the Rio Grande Valley.

Some cities have established public transportation, but many communities rely on Valley Metro buses to travel from rural areas. Transit providers across the valley are gathering public input for the upcoming plan.

Bennett Powell, Transportation Planner for KFH Group says, “Part of what this will do is try to see how they can coordinate together to maybe find some efficiencies, improve some services, maybe not duplicate or overlap some services, and really see how they can work together to help improve the experience of transit customers.”

Updates are expected within the next three months. Some of the new changes include consideration of bicyclists within the current transit systems.
