Ornaments on a Christmas tree at the Cameron County Courthouse are much more than decorations. Each ornament is a photo of a life lost to crime.

The ‘Tree of Angels’ has been a bittersweet tradition for the district attorney’s office. Some of the ornaments are cold cases and victims of infamous crimes.

Liliana Mendez, Cameron County District Attorney’s Office says, “These are the Rubio babies the crime scene itself was horrendous. They are alive within us their memory lives with us they are not forgotten you know they lost their life in a very tragic way but they’re not forgotten.”
