Texas School Principal Arrested

Local News

An Austin Middle School will have new leadership for the last 12 days of school.  The Principal at Burnet Middle School is suspended without pay after his arrest for online solicitation of a minor.  He has since bonded out of jail.

Burnet Middle School parent Chandra Lock doesn’t believe the Austin Independent School District should have hired David Dean knowing he had a criminal record.  His 2009 DWI arrest was later lowered to Obstructing a Highway Passageway, a misdemeanor.

“You’ve got to set a standard for an important job like this, this is it like this isn’t somebody that is working in an office doing our taxes doesn’t have much contact with our children.” said Lock.

In court documents released Tuesday, investigators allege Dean sent texts to an 11-year-old girl living near Houston.  Dean is accused of texting “If I show up tonight can I sleep in your bed?” and other inappropriate messages.  The girl’s mom found out about the texts and went to the police.  Parents say the allegations have tainted an otherwise good school.  Parents did receive handouts on online safety and kids.  They are planning another meeting which will focus solely on online safety.

Montgomery County along with the Texas Attorney General’s Office are investigating.
The Austin ISD board is expected to fire David Dean.
