Texas In Need of Bilingual Teachers

Local News

School districts across Texas need bilingual teachers, and they are coming to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to find them.

UTRGV Career Center Director Juan Rodriguez said it is a plus for aspiring teachers to be bilingual.

“What makes it really unique about UTRGV is the fact that the vast majority of our students are actually bilingual so many of the school districts have told us that the reason why they’re coming here is because they have a great need for bilingual teachers,” Rodriguez said.

80 students attended the Job Expo in the Brownsville campus and at least 100 attended in the Edinburg campus. Many of the students were interviewed on the spot by Human Resource Directors.

Rodriguez expects most attendees to receive job offers within six months. Students were dressed up, and collected pamphlets from prospective employers.
