Texas Game Warden helps unresponsive infant

Local News

HARLINGEN, Texas — A Texas Game Warden from Cameron County is being called a hero after he rescues a baby in distress. Shane Horrocks was on patrol southeast of Palm Valley when a frantic mother flagged him down. She told the game warden her baby was choking, and she didn’t know what to do. The father was already walking for help when Warden Horrocks stopped him, radioed for paramedics and quickly got off his vehicle to give the baby CPR.

Shane Horrocks, Texas Game Warden, When I saw the father walking down the street towards me and the one-month-old premature infant in his hand, laying face down motionless, and you know my heart sank.

After Warden Horrocks gave the baby CPR, the child regained consciousness and was treated by arriving paramedics.

This morning Warden Horrocks returned to the home and checked on the thankful mother and baby. Both are doing well.

All Texas Game Wardens are first responders who are trained in first aid. Warden Horrocks says he was just doing his job, and anytime you can save a baby it is a plus.
