Taxes Due on April 18

Local News

The tax deadline is April 18. Traditionally, taxes are due on April 15.

Since that day fell on a Saturday, the filing deadline would normally be set for the following Monday.
However, April 17 is “Emancipation Day”, which celebrates President Abraham Lincoln signing legislation that freed more than 3,000 slaves in Washington, D.C. in 1862.

That’s why taxes are not due until April 18. If you still need even more time, you can file for an extension.
The extensions don’t mean an extension to pay if you owe any money.
