Swimmer On South Padre Island Attacked By Shark, Receives Non-Life Threatening Wounds

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas - The wounds on a woman swimming at South Padre Island are suspected to be the cause of a shark attack.

The island's fire department found the woman with sharp puncture wounds.
Officials believe the victim received non-life-threatening injuries from the shark.
Which they think is about three to four feet long.
The victim was taken to the hospital.

South Padre Island Fire Chief Doug Fowler said, "When something like that is so rare then we have to reach out to our partners in other areas other beach communities and say okay what kind of things can we do better to better protect our public."

The local authorities around the beach confirm this is a rare incident, but will be more vigilant.
