Suspects in Shocking Hit and Run Video Arrested

South Padre Island Police confirm to Local 23 News three suspects in a graphic hit and run video are in custody. “All from Waco, Texas” wrote South Padre Island Spokesperson Nikki Soto later Sunday evening, “[The suspects] were arraigned on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at the South Padre Island Municipal Court and charged with multiple counts of accident involving personal injury in connection with the auto-pedestrian accident.” writes Soto.

Lorenzo Johnson, Christopher Hart and Madison Wheatley are all accused of being involved in a hit and run at a Stripes convinence store over Spring Break weekend. The victim identified by his family as Christian De La Rosa’s leg was broken when the suspect’s vehicle ran over him and an unidentified woman. “My son is out of surgery. hank you for all your prayers and kind words Please continue to pray for justice to be served and full recovery” wrote De La Rosa’s mother on Facebook. A snapchat video circulated on social media of the gruesome hit and run, De La Rosa’s mother shared the video in hopes the perpetrators would be apprehended. As of Sunday evening the video has been removed from her page. 

According to South Padre Island Police “On March 15, 2019, around 7:45 p.m. South Padre Island Police dispatch received a call concerning an auto-pedestrian accident at the 5000 Block of Padre Boulevard.”

The media release continunes, “Emergency responders arrived and found one victim in the parking lot with what appeared to be serious injuries. The suspects ranged in age from 17 to 19 years old.  The suspects had fled the scene before officers arrived.”

According to Soto, on March 16 at around 9 p.m. Homeland Security Investigations along with South Padre Island Police Deptartment, located the suspect vehicle. 

Details on charges and bond amounts for Johnson, Hart and Wheatley were not made available.
