Suspect in bank robbery arrested and charged

MCALLEN, Texas – On May 13, 2019 at approximately 4:36 p.m. a male entered the bank lobby and approached the bank teller. The suspect demanded money and no weapon was displayed. The suspect stole the money and left through the south side doors and was last seen walking away from the location. The amount of money stolen remains undisclosed.

Responding McAllen Police officers initiated an investigation and searched the adjacent areas for the suspect. McAllen FBI Agents and Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies also responded and joined the ongoing investigation.

At about 7:11 p.m. responding Police officers detained the suspect at the 400 Block of Beaumont Street.

55-year-old Joe Wayne Galipp was charged with:

  • Robbery – Second Degree Felony,
  • Possession of Controlled Substance – Third Degree Felony
  • Evading Arrest – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Resisting Arrest – Class A Misdemeanor

Bond was set at $150,000, $10,000, $7,500, and $7,500 respectively.
