Special Needs Sports Program Coming In March

Local News

New opportunities for special needs children are coming this March.

This week Superior Health Plan donates funds to start a sports league in Cameron County. The Capable Kids Foundation of the Lower Rio Grande Valley says the $5,000 grant will start the Champions League sports program.

It is an athletics-based program for special needs children between the ages of 5 and 20 years old.

Stephanie Wilson – Capable Kids Lower Rio Grande Valley, “I’ve been taking my son all the way to McAllen for their sports program because we haven’t’ had anything here. If a parent wants to drive here. They’re welcome to bring their kids. We kind of figured that Cameron county is a good area to cover.”

The sports program will be hosted in Port Isabel starting March 24th. The Capable Kids Foundation plans to start with Basketball and Cheerleading.
