South Padre Island Hosts Free Concerts

Before you head back to school in a couple of weeks, there is still some fun left for the summer. A coalition of Christian Churches called “JESP”, the English translation is ‘youth in his presence’. The coalition is coming together at South Padre Island and Port Isabel. The Youth in the Community is a series of music concerts that are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at the SPI Convention Center.

The concerts will be free each night beginning at 6:00 PM. It will feature artists of different music genres. Port Isabel Police Chief to retire, Wally Gonzalez supports the effort. He says it will bring forth healthy fun and a positive message.

Chief Gonzalez, “I feel that the message that they’re bringing is a strong message to believe in God and believe in themselves and to me I feel the problems would all be solved, I feel, if everybody would just love one another like God loves us.”

Again, the “JESP” back to school concerts are Monday, August 8th and Tuesday, August 9th at the South Padre Island Convention Center. Admission is free. The concerts begin at 6:00 PM.
