Sheriff’s Standoff With San Benito Man Ends Safely

A standoff with an armed man in San Benito ended safely.

The Cameron County Sheriff’s Department was called out to a domestic violence incident around 9:30 a.m.

When deputies arrived at a home off the 500 block of Crab Hole Lane, the suspect was armed with a gun.
Sheriff department’s SWAT team was on scene but the man surrendered before the situation escalated.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said, “And you know we told him hey, drop the gun we’ll get you some help. Eventually he realized we didn’t mean to harm him at all that all we wanted to do was make sure that nobody got hurt and that way he his family and everybody else and the law enforcement.”

The armed suspect’s name is not being released at this time. His wife was not in the home during the standoff.
