Search Warrant Leads to Hydroponic Marijuana Bust

Local News

A drug trend seen in many parts of the U.S. is now in the Rio Grande Valley. The sale of Hydroponic pot bought legally in Colorado and then transported across state lines into Texas.

Some of that marijuana was seized at a Harlingen area motel. Investigators with the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office arrested 30-year-old Matthew Zuniga of San Benito.

He was allegedly found in possession of 3 pounds of Hydroponic Marijuana. It sells for as much as $3,500 a pound. Evidence was found that a bulk amount of Hydroponic marijuana was purchased in Colorado and shipped here to Texas. Investigators believe Zuniga is a member of a large distribution network. He faces charges including distributing marijuana in a drug free zone.
