The Sacred Heart Respite Center in McAllen is seeking volunteers and donations to continue helping those in need. The center helps out nearly 200 people per day by providing clothing, food, and hygiene maintenance items.
Some of the donations needed are men’s pants, towels, deodorant for both men and women, shoes, toothpaste and toothbrushes. Most of the people that arrive at the center are migrants who were released by immigration and customs enforcement with a court date.
Sister Norma Pimentel the Executive Director Catholic Charities says it is important to remember why we help. We are here for families. We are all immigrants. Either ourselves, our parents or grandparents. We can be in solidarity with them by helping them, and at least hope for the best and see what happens.
If you would like to volunteer or drop off any donations, the respite center is open every day from 8am to 8pm.
