Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley gave immigrant families something to cheer about this holiday season.
The Sacred Heart Respite Center took care of toy and blanket donations for immigrant families. The gifts were given to them before departing for their final destinations to meet with family. The center made sure the families were well fed, but that they also left with warm clothes and a new toy for the children.
Sister Norma Pimentel – Catholic Charities of the RGV said, “They’ve been through so much. They’ve left their families, and Christmas is a time to be with family, and yet they have to leave people they love with hopes that they can arrive to another place where they might find family members they’re looking forward to meet. To bring a little bit of joy, especially during this time of Christmas, is so wonderful.”
Currently the center helps between 30 to 50 immigrant families every day.
