RECORDS: Congressional Candidate Allegedly Stole $73k, Claims Charges are “Political” Retaliation

Local News

KVEO News Center 23 has obtained documents of Green Party candidate Vanessa Tijerina’s arrested and bill of indictment.

Tijerina is running for U.S. Congressional Candidate for District 15.

Friday, October 28th, Vanessa Tijerina was arrested and accused of stealing more than $73,000.

She’s accused of taking the money from the Texas Health And Human Services Commission between March 2012 and August 2016.

Tijerina has not spoken with KVEO News Center 23 about the charges.

However, she has been vocal on her social media pages saying Willacy County’s District Attorney Bernard Ammerman is retaliating against her.

Tijerina said on her Facebook page “this was a misunderstanding of epic proportions created by the district attorney.”

District Attorney Ammerman and Tijerina have a history of head-butting and has openly claimed Ammerman is a corrupt elected official.

This is Tijerina’s third arrest.

If convicted of a third-degree felony, Tijerina faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Attached to this story are the court records and bill of indictment.
