You may not spend much time thinking about this, but the valley’s warm weather is a perfect habitat for some of the deadliest creatures on earth.

The common mosquito, accounts for over 800K deaths per year. 

The pest is known to carry various types of disease such as dengue fever, or even the Zika virus.

This morning, Driscoll Health and Cameron County team up to inform the community about the dangers of Zika and unborn children. 

“We believe it’s one of the most important topics going on right now. This is the Driscoll Health Plan family talk. We’re going to be trying to do these family talks once a month throughout the entire community, throughout the entire Valley.” Said Lizbeth Shanholtzer of Driscoll Health.

Symptoms include fever, rash, joint pain, and red eyes. However most cases will not show symptoms. 

This disease is especially troubling for pregnant women, which could cause birth defects.
