A non-profit organization dedicated to help low income families is creating a new community center in Cameron Park.
Proyecto Juan Diego broke ground this morning of a new facility that will offer programs and benefits for the local community. They say they’ve outgrown their home and a two-story structure can help serve more people.
Sister Phylis Peters – CEO Proyecto Juan Diego said, “Why is it needed? Because there is a lot of people without insurance. There is a lot of people who are underinsured. A lot of people don’t know much about healthcare and we have to. There is a huge amount of diabetes and obesity and we have to get that rate down.”
Proyecto Juan Diego deals with various types issues affecting low income families such as health information, stress management, and informing residents about citizenship applications.
