Proposed Convention Center in Harlingen

Local News

A new convention center may be coming to the city of Harlingen. This is the site of the proposed convention center located in northwest of Sam’s Club near the expressway. Mayor Boswell says the facility will be roughly the size of the McAllen or Brownsville Event Centers.

Unlike the other cities convention center’s, this one is said to be shared with a hotel built next door.

The developer of the hotel will share half of the development and operating cost. The mayor states that the city does not plan to incentivize the hotel involved in this project.

“This one will be unique in that it will be the only convention center or conference facility that will have a hotel adjacent to it. So it’s really going to be something that is available to lots of groups to have meetings.
