A choice between right and wrong, that’s how President Trump described the need for a wall along the southern border tonight.
But Democrats dismissed the rhetoric, and blamed the president for shutting down part of the government.
From the oval office, President Trump spoke to the nation about the U.S.-Mexico border, calling it a humanitarian crises, and demanding nearly $6 billion dollars to fund a barrier at the border. Which he says is critical to border security.
He also said the border wall would pay for itself, partially by way of the new trade deal.
“All Americans are hurt by uncontrolled illegal migration. It strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages.” Says President Trump.
“Democrats and the President both want stronger border security. However, we sharply disagree with the president about the most effective way to do it.” Says Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
The president also says that some democrats, including Senator Schumer, once supported a border wall, but changed their minds when he came in to office.
